Actors will play younger and older version of Russian doctor in four-part dramedy ‘A Young Doctor’s Notebook.’

What do Don Draper and Harry Potter have in common? They’re both about to become doctors.
The Internet was buzzing earlier this month when rumors popped up that actors Jon Hamm and Daniel Radcliffe were set to play the older and younger version of a Russian doctor in a four-part British miniseries set during the end of World War I. On Friday (May 18), Sky Arts, the network set to air the series in 2013, confirmed that we’ll indeed get to see Dr. HammRad in action. “A Young Doctor’s Notebook” is a dramedy based on a short-story collection by Mikhail Bulgakov, a Russian writer and playwright.
“I have been an obsessive Bulgakov reader for a couple of years now,” Radcliffe said in a statement about the television program. “So when the opportunity to become involved in this project came up, I could barely contain my excitement. The book is funny, grotesque and heartfelt in equal measure and I look forward to working with a great group of people to help bring it to life.”
Hamm agreed with his new co-star’s enthusiasm, saying, “I am thrilled to get the opportunity to work on such rich source material with such fantastically talented people whose work I greatly respect.”
The actors will play the same character in different time periods, occasionally interacting with each other. The original rumors were reported by The Sun, which said the show “will incorporate dark humour as the doctor attempts to overcome self-doubts about his competence.”
When MTV News spoke to Radcliffe last summer, he explained he’s attracted to darker tales because he finds them much more interesting.
“I don’t want to make a boring love story about two people who meet and then are happy. That’s boring, and that doesn’t exist,” Radcliffe said. “I also do like playing slightly disenfranchised characters like Arthur is in ‘The Woman in Black.’ He’s someone who’s grieving and whose grief has put him to the edge of madness and also has sort of made him ostracize himself from society. I guess I like the dark stuff. I find it more interesting.”
Hamm said producer Clelia Mountford and production company Big Talk have been “unabashedly” advocating for the series. “I share their great enthusiasm for bringing something original, dark, funny and moving to light,” the actor said. “Also, I have been watching ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’ on infinite loop, and I think I’ve finally got this accent thing sorted…”

And, during a Wednesday night BBC Radio broadcast, it was revealed that the queen herself actually approved each design.</P><P>Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page — who helped design the cover for <i>IV</i> — was on hand to celebrate the release of the stamps and recalled the mysterious nature of the album's iconic imagery.</P><P>"Almost 40 years after the album came out, nobody knows the old man who featured on the cover, nor the artist who painted him," he said. "That sort of sums up what we wanted to achieve with the album cover, which has remained both anonymous and enigmatic at the same time."</P><P>Of course, any great honor is befitting of an equally great contest, so, on the same day the stamps were made available to the general public, Coldplay decided to give one of their <i>Rush of Blood</i> stamps away. In a message on their official site, the band held a contest to send one lucky fan "a letter using a Coldplay stamp, postmarked with today's issue date."</P><P>"We visited our local post office earlier today and bought some of the Coldplay stamps," the message read. "Very nice they are too."</p>

Legendary singer Donna Summer has died at the age of 63. She passed away this morning after battling cancer for years. It has been confirmed by the family of Donna Summer that she did indeed loose her battle with lung cancer. TMZ was first to break the story and revealed that the amazing singer was in Florida at the time of her death. She is survived by her singer and producer Bruce Sudano; their daughters, Brooklyn and Amanda; and Summer’s daughter, Mimi, from a previous marriage. I don?t know about you but I was unaware that Summer was battling lung cancer and according to TMZ that is exactly how she wanted it. Reportedly Donna did not want to let the world know the extent of her illness. In fact there are reports that the ?Last Dance? singer was actually trying to get a new album finished in the weeks leading up to her death. Perhaps one day fans might get to hear some tracks off of that album. I have no doubt it would have been a huge success just like she was. <P>After drawing <a href="/news/articles/1648982/britney-spears-glee-episode-draws-record-setting-ratings.jhtml">record ratings the first time around, "Glee"</a> has announced plans to pay homage to <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a> … one more time. The news comes hot on the heels of the announcement that Spears will join the "X Factor" as judge, when the competition show returns to Fox this fall on Thursday nights. (Glee also moves to Thursdays for season four.)</P><P>While Brit appeared in the September 2010 tribute episode, which used her impressive collection of hits, the 2012 tribute episode will instead focus on her "Glee" namesake, Brittany S. Pierce (played by Heather Morris), without any appearances from Spears. <a href="http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/05/15/glee-scoop-second-britney-tribute-exclusive" target="_blank">EW.com</a> reports that the new episode will be the second in the show's fourth season, returning in the fall.</P><P>The Spears-centric episode will feature eight of her songs, and a source revealed that Fox is excited to have Spears joining the network on "X Factor" and that the "Glee" ep is partly a reflection of that.</P><P>Spears was on hand Monday at the Fox Upfront presentation in New York City, where she appeared alongside fellow <a href="/news/articles/1685057/demi-lovato-britney-spears-x-factor.jhtml">"X Factor" newbie Demi Lovato</a>, as well as returning judges L.A. Reid and Simon Cowell. At the event, the judges and host of "So You Think You Can Dance" weighed in on the <a href="/news/articles/1685066/britney-spears-demi-lovato-x-factor.jhtml">ladies joining the show</a>.</P><P>"I don't have any advice for those ladies," "SYTYCD" host Cat Deeley told MTV News. I love the idea that they've been in the business for so long and since being kids, and so quite often they've had successes and they've had failures on things.</P><P>"And I think the most important thing is the mistakes we make," she added. "You learn so much from mistakes that you make and I think they'll be able to impart their wisdom to the new kids coming through. If you haven’t been keeping up with our bright and shiny new episodes of “Punk’d,” then you’ve missed a star-studded lineup of guest punk-ers and punk-ees including Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift, Lucy Hale and Josh Hutcherson, and Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth.
If you think it can’t get any better than that group of noteworthy, fun-loving and slightly gullible individuals, think again, because the show’s godfather himself, executive producer Ashton Kutcher, will return to host a special episode of “Punk’d” on Sunday, June 3 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, as part of the 2012 MTV Movie Awards pre-show.
Kutcher is coming back with bigger punks than ever before, and his targets are two of the hottest celebrities in Hollywood, the identities of whom will be revealed soon. Fans will see some of the most elaborate and outrageous punks only the master himself could pull off.
Once the shock and awe has worn off from Kutcher’s expectedly memorable antics, don’t forget to tune in on Thursday, May 31 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, when host Kellan Lutz pulls off hilarious punks on “Awkward” star Ashley Rickards, “Friday Night Lights” actress Aimee Teegarden and “Rock of Ages’” star and “Dancing with the Stars” alumna Julianne Hough.

The 2012 Teen Choice Awards will, once again, arbitrarily celebrate the hottest teen icons in television, music, film, sports, fashion, comedy and the web!
In a star-studded event Sunday, July 22, the hottest of the hot will be feted.
The Vampire Diaries leads the way with six nominations, with American Idol and Justin Bieber garnering five nominations a piece. Not shabby totals.
Starting today, fans ages 13-19 can vote once each day per category for their favorite nominees at the official Teen Choice Awards website. Go to it!
Host(s), performers, presenters and more nominees will be announced soon, but expect a who’s-who of entertainment and celebrity gossip staples.
New categories added this year include Choice Book, most likely because of The Hunger Games, and Choice Electronic Dance Music (EDM) Artist.

‘If I Die Tomorrow,’ off FM’s May 22 release, Dirty Bass, is ‘a song about losing yourself.’

Ever wondered what it would sound like if the Far East Movement enlisted Tokio Hotel‘s glammy, gothy lead singer Bill Kaulitz for a track? Well, wonder no more, because now we have “If I Die Tomorrow.”
The collaboration, which dropped Friday (May 18), leans more on FM’s love for partying than Kaulitz’s love for rocking. While FM rap all about bumping trunks, killing bottles and going crazy in the club, Kaulitz, in full auto-tuned, falsetto mode, proclaims, “If I die tomorrow, that means we had the night of our lives/ If tomorrow never comes, then tonight we lose control.”
“If I Die Tomorrow” is off FM’s new album, Dirty Bass, out May 22. When MTV News caught up with Far East Movement recently, Kev Nish told us that fans will see plenty of “unexpected collaborations” like this on the upcoming album.
“When we first signed to Cherrytree [Records], we went on the website and see who’s on the roster … and we saw Tokio Hotel, and we were like ‘Yo, this band is wild,’ ” Nish said of working with the Musical March Madness winner and Tokio Hotel’s leading man. “We were on a bus watching them on the MTV Europe Awards, winning, and we were like, ‘We need to do a song with those dudes.’
“So we got in with Bill Kaulitz and we just wanted to do a song about losing yourself, about possibly losing your mind, because you might die the next day,” he added.
The album also features Justin Bieber on the song “Live My Life.” The same day the album drops, the group also kicks off their tour with the kings of party rocking, LMFAO.

‘He’s been to comedy what Marlon Brando was to acting,’ director Larry Charles tells MTV News.

For each of Sacha Baron Cohen’s onscreen conquests, one man has been there every step of the way. Larry Charles made a name for himself as supervising producer and occasional writer for “Seinfeld,” but his work directing Baron Cohen’s films brought him a new kind of recognition.
Baron Cohen asked Charles once again to helm his film with “The Dictator,” and MTV News spoke with the director in the lead-up to the film’s release.
One of the biggest challenges posed by their new film was the creation of an entirely new character. Unlike Baron Cohen’s previous films, which came out of his work on “Da Ali G Show,” the writers of “The Dictator” created the concept for General Aladeen with the comedian in mind. This meant that Baron Cohen had to work through the specifics of Aladeen to make him as fully realized.
“Unlike the other movies, where Sacha had a character that he had been working on for years and years and years and was to hone, he knew how this character walked and talked and reacted to every situation when it came to Bruno or Borat or Ali G, but this is a brand-new character,” Charles said. “He had to create this character from the ground up, from the accent to the look to the body language. We needed to give him as much time as possible to evolve that character to where he was ready for the camera.”
Additionally, “The Dictator” did away with Baron Cohen’s old format of real-life people interacting with the character. The more traditional structure allowed Charles to get additional takes with Baron Cohen for the first time. “I had never had a second take with Sacha in any of the movies,” he said. “We would do one take. Now that one take may last eight hours for some of the scenes we did in ‘Borat’ or ‘Bruno.’ Eight straight hours of him having to do a character. Eight straight hours of filming it. Here we didn’t have to do that.”
Considering that some of the “Borat” and “Bruno” interviews resulted in lawsuits and physical threats, Charles said the “Dictator” set was indeed much safer, but that security came at a price. “It’s certainly physically safer, no question about it,” Charles said. “To be in the United States with a full crew and security and have some kind of permission to be there and not encounter the hostility that we have encountered all over the world and here. At the same time, the danger here is complacency.”
The real reason Charles has been willing to work with Baron Cohen repeatedly is that he genuinely believes him to be a comedic genius. “I really classify him in that rare company of comic geniuses. I think there have been a handful of them in film and television history,” Charles said. “He has changed the face of comedy like few other people have. He’s been to comedy what Marlon Brando was to acting. Comedy will be different after him. You can’t go back to some of the old-fashioned ways after you’ve seen Sacha do his thing at his best.”

Experts weigh in on whether Spears will find success with her new judging gig.

<P><a href="/news/articles/1680782/britney-spears-x-factor-judge-offer.jhtml">The rumors had been swirling</a> for months, and now, according to reports, the pop princess herself, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a>, will be joining the <a href="/news/articles/1684813/britney-spears-x-factor-judge.jhtml">judging panel on "The X Factor,"</a> landing a <a href="/news/articles/1684879/britney-spears-x-factor-deal-judge.jhtml">$15 million deal</a> for one season.</P><P>Yet, after 15 years in the public eye, seven studio albums and more than 100 million albums sold worldwide, many are wondering: Is "The X Factor" the <a href="/news/articles/1680800/britney-spears-x-factor-judge-singing.jhtml">right career move for Spears</a>?</P><P>"I think it is a good move, actually," <a href="http://www.ew.com/ew/" target="_blank"><i>Entertainment Weekly</i></a> writer Tanner Stransky told MTV News. "I think she has so many people on her team watching what she's doing and being careful. I think nobody would let her take a misstep, but I think it's the right move right now."</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Britney Spears' 'X Factor' Gig Could Breathe Light Into Her Career" id="vid:768409" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>This new role certainly has many advantages. It keeps Spears in the public eye while keeping her close to her family, and it will most likely bring in the big ratings that "X Factor" and Simon Cowell are hoping for. Yet there are some experts who are a little wary of Spears taking a spot on the panel, since over the years, the pop star has been noticeably withdrawn from press, rarely giving on-camera interviews.</P><P>"I think everyone is a little concerned, simply because Britney has been very press-shy since she's been in her conservatorship, and everything is incredibly guarded and incredibly controlled," Keith Caulfield, associate director of charts at <a href="http://www.billboard.com/" target="_blank"><i>Billboard,</i></a> said. "And there can be uncontrollable moments on 'The X Factor,' and if things are not completely in control and things are not rehearsed, things could go wrong. With a live show, anything can happen, and that can be very exciting but, at the same time, a little worrisome."</P><P>Stransky agreed and believes that, while Spears is judging the contestants, viewers will ultimately be judging her.</P><P>"Everyone is going to take a close look at her and pay attention to what she says," Stransky said. "She's sort of been so managed on her interviews in the past five years, it's risky."</P><P>But Spears' loyal fanbase feels that putting Spears in an environment where anything can happen is actually a good thing, and will show a whole different side of the pop star.</P><P>"That's part of the excitement of her being on this: It's unscripted," said Jordan Miller, webmaster for Spears' biggest fan site, <a href="http://www.breatheheavy.com/" target="_blank">BreatheHeavy.com</a>. "We are so used to her reading cue cards and kind of being controlled in that way, so for her to break out of that and to do something that's stepping outside her comfort zone, I think it's a great step for her, career-wise, and for her as a person. I think she's going to do really good. I think she's confident."</P><P>And confidence is key when judging a singing competition, but so is experience — which Spears has in spades. For years, fans have listened to her chart-topping music and have seen her on tour, but now they're ready to connect with the star on a new level.</P><P>"I think the overall consensus is that people are really excited to see Britney do something new and be able to connect with her a couple times a week on national television," Miller said. Murray will represent himself as he contests involuntary manslaughter conviction for which he faces up to four years in state prison.

<P>As expected, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/jackson_michael/artist.jhtml">Michael Jackson</a>'s former doctor <a href="/news/articles/1673957/conrad-murray-appeal-verdict-michael-jackson.jhtml">Conrad Murray has filed an appeal</a> to challenge his involuntary manslaughter conviction.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Michael Jackson's Former Doctor Guilty Of Involuntary Manslaughter" id="vid:708788.id:1673923" width="240" height="211"></div><p></P><P>According to <a href="http://www.tmz.com/2011/12/02/conrad-murray-files-appeal-involuntary-manslaughter" target="_blank">TMZ</a>, Murray filed the petition in pro per, which means he has decided to forego hiring legal representation and represent himself. He reportedly listed "Men's Central Jail" and his booking number in the space on the appeal document where a lawyer would normally list a firm's name or contact information.</P><P>TMZ also reported that although Murray seems to be without a lawyer, he is still in communication with Nareg Gourjian, one of the attorneys who represented him during his manslaughter trial.</P><P>"This case presents a gold mine of issues for any appellate lawyer," Gourjian told TMZ. "Dr. Murray is confident that the Court of Appeal will vindicate him."</P><P>Following the guilty verdict, Murray's lead defense lawyer Ed Chernoff told CNN, "What matters most right now is trying to keep Dr. Murray from taking up a prison cell in this community. That's what we're focusing on right now, and we'll deal with an appeal after that."</P><P><a href="/news/articles/1675062/conrad-murray-sentence.jhtml">Murray was sentenced to four years</a> in jail Tuesday, but due to overcrowding, he's unlikely to serve his full term. </p>

Tip confirms second remix in the works for track, which previously featured a remix verse from Andre 3000.

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/kesha_/artist.jhtml">Ke$ha</a>'s already gotten <a href="/news/articles/1656039/andre-3000-pops-up-on-kehas-sleazy-remix.jhtml">"Sleazy" with Andre 3000</a>. Now, a few more rappers want to get dirty with the glittery pop singer.</P><P><a href="http://www.xxlmag.com/news/2011/10/t-i-andre-300-lil-wayne-wiz-khalifa-record-kesha-remix" target="_blank">XXLmag.com</a> reports that <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/t_i_/artist.jhtml">T.I.</a> plans to jump on the track, and Lil Wayne and Wiz Khalifa will also be joining Andre and Tip on a new version of "Sleazy." Weezy should be a welcome addition to <a href="/news/articles/1651081/keha-gets-sleazy-on-new-cannibal-track.jhtml">Ke$ha's dance tune</a>, as it sounds somewhat like Wayne's single "A Milli." And while not much else is known about the remix, T.I. promised that he's going to go big with his verse.</P><P>"I haven't heard anybody but mine. … I'm gonna put my money on mine," the newly freed rapper, who <a href="/news/articles/1671950/ti_prison-release.jhtml">ended an 11-month prison sentence</a> in September, told the website.</P><P>The Andre 3000 remix dropped earlier this year and appears on K-Dollar Sign's album <i>Cannibal.</i> The guys will have a lot of swagger to compete with because when Andre appeared on the first remix, he had this to say: "We start out so cute in our baby pictures/ That mama shot for our daddy so that he wouldn't forget you/ He forgot anyway, but hey, one day he'll remember/ If not, he's human, I'm human, you human, we'll forgive him/ I call her Keisha, she like it because it's 'hood to her/ She call me Andre 6000 because I'm good to her."</P><P>Tip told XXLmag.com that his appearance on the Ke$ha song is just one of many remixes he's amped about. He has also worked on remixes for Meek Mill and Rick Ross's "Ima Boss," as well as Jay-Z and Kanye West's <i>Watch the Throne</i> song "N—as in Paris."</P><P>"I'm looking for some more records to jump on," he said. "That's what I'm doin' right now. I'm commandeering hit records right now. I'm hijacking hit records. If you got a hit, I'm on it."</P><P><i>Are you looking forward to the new "Sleazy" remix?
